Bactrim and IVs

I started Bactrim last week after feeling a little extra junky and wheezy for a while now. I go to the doctor Friday to do a lung function test to see if my PFTs are back to baseline. If not, I will be getting a PICC line put in for a nice course of IV antibiotics. I am hoping my numbers are okay because I don't want to give up swimming after starting up again and because I have a feeling a PICC with a 7 month old will be an interesting challenge. I feel better, but I am not sure I feel good enough to be back at baseline. Wish me luck this Friday!!

    1. Thanks, John. I knew it was bound to happen eventually, because with nursing I am limited in what oral antibiotics I can take. Nursing is worth it to me though! If I do get a PICC I will do home IVs. I have only stayed inthe hospital once, hate that place!

  2. My first thought was, "but she's nursing!!!" I had to wean Morgan unexpectedly due to an infection requiring antibiotics that were not nursing-friendly and it was a very difficult experience for both of us. Sounds like you've got it all figured out though. Whew! Wishing you the best and sending you healthy, healing thoughts!

    1. I am sure having to abruptly stop nursing was extremely hard on you. I worked it out with my doc that I will go on meds that are safe for nursing and I am lucky my bacteria is sensitive to nursing safe meds. I just have no idea how I will juggle taking care of a crawling, grabbing, climbing baby all while doing IVs...eeek!

    3. Thank you so much for your response. I am seriously nervous about her trying to pull out my PICC, but it is nice to hear from people who were successful. My daughter is the same way about nursing and usually ends up playing with my face in nothing else is around! I am glad it is winter so I won't mind keeping it covered as much.
